Jan. 27, 2011 - A resident on FM 272 contacted Leonard police on Jan. 17 at 12:17 p.m. after observing four horses loose on the roadway near his house. When the officer responded to the location, a man and woman standing at the roadway advised the horses were theirs and they were going to get them.
- An officer took a report of a minor accident on Jan. 17 at 5:15 p.m. Reports show that a 50-year-old resident failed to see a vehicle parked across the street, and struck the parked car as she backed out of her driveway. The accident caused minor damage to the driver's side of the parked vehicle.
- Five puppies were placed in the city pound on Jan. 19 after a resident on County Road 5035 found them dumped at his place. A local rescue facility checked the puppies and found them to be adoptable and took custody of them on the same day.
- An officer was dispatched to a location on Bois d' Arc Street on Jan. 19 after a resident could hear a disturbance at the neighbor's home. A couple at the home advised they were having an argument, but it was only verbal. Both were advised to keep the noise level down.
- A resident on Connett Street was warned about playing his drums late in the evening after neighbors complained on Jan. 19 at 11:15 p.m. that they were being kept up by the noise level. The officer personally heard the drums while taking the report, and advised the man to stop and requested he not play his drums after 10 p.m.
- A 19-year-old resident filed a harassment report against her father-in-law on Jan. 20. Reports show that the complainant told officers that her father-in-law was not happy that she and her husband were trying to work things out in their marriage. On the date of the report, the complainant started receiving text messages from the suspect that were harassing, two of which were received while she was filing the report. The officer contacted the man and advised him to stop immediately, and if it continued, charges would be filed. The father-in-law further advised that he also was receiving texts from the complainant, and the officer advised him of his option to file a report as well.
- An officer helped retrieve a lost dog on Jan. 21 after it had gotten loose from its owner's residence. The dog was located near the Leonard ISD baseball fields and the owner was able to catch it. The officer transported the owner and pet back home.
- An officer was contacted on Jan. 20 by a driver who wanted to report another reckless driver between Leonard and Celeste. The officer traveled south on U.S. Highway 69 but was unable to locate the suspect vehicle.
- An officer made contact with two males on Jan. 21 who were walking door-to-door for Just Energy. The men did not have a permit as required by the city and were advised to contact City Hall on Monday before they could continue soliciting. The officer further advised that - even with the permit - they are not allowed to solicit after 5 p.m.
- An officer on routine patrol arrested a 20-year-old man on Jan. 22 at 11 p.m. The officer observed the man at a business parking lot and knew that he had eight outstanding warrants for his arrest. The man was taken into custody without incident and transported to Fannin County Jail.
- An officer initiated a traffic stop on a white Honda Civic on Jan. 23 at 2:38 a.m. after he observed the vehicle not maintain a single lane of traffic on three occasions. The 26-year-old driver advised that she was trying to text while driving, but the officer noticed the smell of alcohol coming from the driver. A deputy who responded to assist administered a breath test on the driver and it showed that she was not intoxicated, but she admitted that she had been drinking earlier in the evening. The officer advised the driver that he did not feel it was safe for her to operate a motor vehicle, and she agreed to contact a friend who lived nearby to pick her up. The friend, however, advised that he had also been drinking and shouldn't drive. The woman was transported to the friend's house by the officer.
- An officer was dispatched to a location on Travis Street after a resident observed a suspicious person in the backyard of a residence, and it appeared they were trying to break in. The officer made contact with the person who advised that he often stayed at the house with his friend who lived there, due to conflict at home. He further advised that the friend would sometimes leave a back window open, but it was locked. The officer advised that the man wait on the front porch, but he stated he would wait at the laundry mat.
- A resident on Cedar Street received a citation for dogs at large on Jan. 23 at 10:16 a.m. after an officer observed three dogs running in the street. On approach to the owner's home, one dog attempted to bite the officer and he had to use pepper spray to keep the animal from doing so. The owner, who had previously been cited for dogs at large, received a second citation and retrieved his animals from the street.
