March 17, 2011 - MaKayla Lewis, a sixth grader at Leonard Junior High School, had her hair cut last Thursday, March 10, for a donation to the Locks of Love organization. Kristin Weger at Serenity Spa and Salon took off 16 inches of Makayla's hair, which was almost down to her knees. The minimum amount accepted for donation is ten inches. Makayla is the daughter of Dan and Susan Lewis of Leonard and her mother said that this was the first real haircut she has ever had. "She has had her hair trimmed, but never more than that," Susan Lewis said. Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.
