March 10, 2011 - In just three hours, residents and businesses raised $1500 for COTA in honor of Madeline Burke Saturday night with a chili supper - courtesy of Sonic - and silent auction items.
Sonic served a new item on their menu, Frito Chili Cheese Pie and all the proceeds went to the COTA fund for Madeline. Edward Jones-Carlisle Mott and The Leonard Graphic donated cases of drinks for the event and many local cooks baked up brownies or cookies to sale.
Clayton Kemp, Leonard ISD student, played music throughout the three hours and made announcements when needed while neighbors shopped and visited.
Businesses donating silent auction items were: The Leonard Pharmacy, Summer House, Bear Creek Country Store, Hair Central, American Bank of Texas, Kemiko, The Flower Pot of Randolph, R & K Wholesale in Celeste, Shelbi Raye's Salon, Lea's Restaurant, Florentina's Tex Mex Restaurant, Circle Star Quick Lube & Tire, Crossroads Hardware, The Furniture Gallery, Starfish Clinical Massage, Almost Grandma's Childcare, Boyer's Jewelry in Bonham, Jack Bonds with El Dorado Jewelry and Loan in Bonham, Warrior Tire & Appliance in Bonham, Sonic in Leonard, Mae Escue of Bonham, and the Kathy Self Educational Foundation.
Sam Busby of Bonham, Linda Tucker of Allen, Lindsey Britnell of Woodville and Ava Barlow donated items for the silent auction.
Ratti's Pizza, Dairy Queen and Sonic donated food and drink coupons to the children who took coin bottles around to the tables of diners and asked for money.
On Saturday, May 7, the Blandelle's will be playing at the Leonard City Park in a noon concert with all donation proceeds going to benefit the COTA fund in honor of Madeline Burke. Ratti's Pizza will be selling pizza by the slice and drinks will be sold with all proceeds also going to Madeline.
