NOTICE

Effective August 1, 1981, Celeste Courier subscription rate will increase: $6.00 year in Fannin and Hunt Counties, $8.00 a year sent elsewhere in states.

Annual Stockholders Meeting

The Celeste Co-op Gin Association held its regular annual meeting at 7:30 p.m., June 13, 1981. Directors elected to serve 3 years terms were H. B. LaFavers and Edwin West.

Bank Holiday

Bob Barnard, president of First National Bank of Celeste, announced today the bank will be closed July 3 and 4 in observance of Independence Day.

Coffee Honoree

Mrs. Johnnie Stapleton entertained with a coffee, in her home Friday a.m. June 19. The honoree was Mrs. Jo Willa Pierson for her birthday.

The dining table had a centerpiece of varied fruits. Quartet tables had flowers from the yard in vases.

Those signing the birthday greeting card were: Mrs. Lorene Wallace, Mrs. Ida Arey, Mrs. Dorothy Pruitt, Mrs. Esta Stringer, Mrs. Lou Jeter, Mrs. Dot Alexander, Mrs. Lois Lewis, Mrs. Jayne Williams, Mrs. Marie Little, Mrs. Theda Lacy, Mrs. June Floyd, Mrs. Jettie Shields, Mrs. Juanita Holla, Mrs. Anglielou Sladen, Mrs. Tommie Jo Shields, Mrs. Owana Weatherley, the honoree and the hostess.

Extension Homemakers News

The Celeste Extension Homemakers held a meeting June 9 at the Community Room of the First National Bank.

Sydne West gave the devotional.

Sarah Swindell gave a very interesting program on Drug Abuse.

The July meeting will be a social. All members will be notified of time and place of meeting.

50 YEARS AGO - JUNE 23, 1961

Week-End Opening for Mavis' Cafe On Highway 69

Mrs. Ray Compton announces the opening of Mavis' Caf this week end. The new and modern caf is located on Highway 69 south of Celeste.

For an opening day special, Saturday only, you may buy hamburgers with chips for 20c. Also free coffee and donuts will be served all day.

Mrs. Compton said the caf will be open from 5 A.M. to midnight daily. She invites the public to visit the new caf. She will serve lunches, breakfasts, short orders, sandwiches and hamburgers.

The Monroe Passons Will Observe 50th Anniversary July 2

Mr. and Mrs. Monrow Passons will be honored at an open house from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 2, 1961 at their home in Celeste. The occasion is the observance of their golden wedding anniversary. Children of the couple will be hostesses.

Mr. and Mrs. Passons have made their home in and around Celeste their entire married life.

All friends and relatives of the couple are invited to call. No formal invitations will be sent.

Miss Sue Sumrow Named To Dean's List

Miss Barbara Sue Sumrow, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ellis H. Sumrow, is one of two hundred and seventy-one East Texas State College students who made outstanding grades during the spring semester and named to the Dean's list.
