Cawthon's Receive Yard Award

Don and Barbara Cawthon won the Thursday Club "Yard of the Month" award for the new look given their place, 101 S. 3rd Street. The place is quite evident from the highway. The improvements in planting and plot edging is pleasing.

Family Reunion

The annual reunion of Compton, West and Evans will be held Sunday, June 7 at the Hogeye Community Center. All relatives and friends are invited to attend and bring a filled basket.

Mickey Pierson Promoted At ANB

Mickey Pierson, Allen's mayor, has been appointed vice president of Allen National Bank.

Dan Jackson, president of the bank, made the announcement and noted Pierson has been active in the community for many years.

Pierson is serving his second term as Allen's mayor. He has a BS degree in business administration from Austin College with a major in accounting and a minor in economics. He completed graduate work at the University of Vermont in capital formations.

Pierson and his wife Carole are 11 year residents of Allen. Carole teaches at Roundtree Elementary School. They have 2 children, Brad and Elizabeth.

Pierson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mack Pierson of Celeste.

Mrs. Jack Warren Shower Honoree At Wolfe City

Mrs. Jack Warren was honored Monday evening with a bridal shower in the home of Mrs. Joe Parsons, Wolfe City. Mrs. Sam Daniel, Mrs. Maggie Runnion, Mrs. Melvin Vanhoozer and Mrs. Ray Lumpkin were co-hostesses.

Mrs. Maggie Runnion registered about forty in the lovely brides book and about 100 remembered her with lovely and useful gifts.

The bride's chosen colors of orchid were carried out throughout the house with the refreshment table laid in lace over orchid.

The centerpiece was an arrangement of purple Iris with white satin streamers inscribed with Billie and Jack.

Mrs. Ray Lumpkin served punch and cake squares iced in the chosen colors.

Out of town guests included Mrs. Lem Warren, Miss Sarah Warren, Mrs. Cecil Arey, Mrs. Howard Roach and Mrs. E. L. Cardwell of Celeste; also relatives and friends from Greenville.

Celeste Little League Played Practice Game

Friday afternoon the Celeste Little League traveled to Greenville for a game with a Greenville team. This was the first real game for most of the boys. They played a fine game, even though losing 17 to 8. They showed the results of the fine coaching they have been receiving from their Coaches Tommy Arey and Johnny Myers.

There are 18 boys on the squad. Each of the boys played in the game. The following boys were in the starting line-up:

S. Stop - David Hackney, Garland Evans;

2nd B. - Fred Felty, Larry Lyday;

1st B. - Bob Barnard, Ronnie Stewart;

L. Field - Danny Lipsey, Bill Gibson;

Catcher - Harry Childress, Donnie Seals;

3rd Base - Kenny Sumrow, Jackie Hackney;

C. Field - Dwayne Compton, Dale Gibson;

R. Field - Tim Gilliam, Randy Gay;

Pitcher - Jerry Seals, Craig Christian.

Daniel Vestal Will Preach For Baptist Week End Revival

Daniel Vestal is to be the speaker for the week end revival at the First Baptist Church of Celeste. Young Daniel is the son of the well known evangelist, Rev. Dan Vestal. Although still in high school in Fort Worth, Daniel is an outstanding speaker and is in demand across the nation.

After his engagement here, he will fly to Phoenix, Arizona, for a week's engagement with the First Baptist Church of that city.

"We invite the public to hear this young man as he comes to our church for the week end of May 27. Young Daniel will preach Saturday evening at 8:00 o'clock and at both worship services Sunday," said the pastor, Rev. H. B. Gideon.
