Holdridge Receives Scholarship

Chuck Holdridge, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Holdridge, a senior at Celeste High School recently received a four year $16,000 scholarship instituted by the Tenneco Corporation, of Durfield, Illinois.

Cindy Speir Places 2nd At State

Cindy Speir finished second in the Class A 1600 Meter Run Saturday at Austin with a time of 5:35.8. Speir placed fourth in the 3200 Meter with a 12:37.7 time some 17 seconds slower than her winning time at regionals.

Speir, a senior at CHS concluded her outstanding track career with a first (800 in 1978), second (1600 this year), third (800 in 1980) and a fourth place (3200 meter) this year, all at the state meet.

Ruth Hall and Konnie Griffis lost in the first round at the state tennis competition on Friday at Austin. They were eliminated by Austwell-Tivoli 6-3, 6-2.

Celeste's loss in the first round spoiled the third straight state tournament for Hall and Griffis.

It was the 22nd year that coach G. W. Tillerson, superintendent of CHS, has gone to the state tournament.

Miss Donna Jeannette Glasscock

JUNE NUPTIAL - Mr. and Mrs. James W. Glasscock, Route One, Celeste,announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Donna Jeannette, to John C. Massey, AG3, U. S. Navy, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Massey, Jr., of 4209 Washington Street, Greenville, Texas.

The ceremony will be an event of Saturday, June 3, at eight o'clock in the evening. Scene of the wedding will be the First Baptist Church, Leonard, Texas. Reverand Bruce Cushman, of South Wayside Baptist, Fort Worth, Texas, will be the officiant. Following the ceremony, a reception will be held in the Fellowship Hall at the Church.

The bride-elect has named her sister, Mrs. Richard Lyday, of Dallas, as matron of honor, Saundra McCaslin of Leonard as maid of honor, Mrs. Bobby Thomason, of Dallas, as bridesmaid. Flower girls will be Jeannie Carole Glasscock, sister of the bride, and Shelly Lynn Glasscock, cousin of the bride. Candlelighters are Jane and Janice Fenton, of Garland, cousins of the groom.

J. D. Massey III will serve his brother as best man. Groomsmen will be Glenn Key and David Roberts of Greenville. Ushers are Richard Lyday and Bobby Thomason of Dallas, Bobby McCaslin of Leonard and E. K. Massey of Greenville.

Miss Glasscock is a member of the spring graduating class of Celeste High School. Mr. Massey received his education in Greenville schools. He has served in the U. S. N. Air Force for the past two years, receiving his education in meteorology in New Jersey and Honolulu, Hawaii, where he is now stationed with the Meteorology Department at the Fleet Weather Central.

No formal invitations are being sent. All friends and relatives of the couple are invited to attend the wedding ceremony and the reception.

Mrs. Tommy Arey Honored With Pink & Blue Shower

A pink and blue shower honoring Mrs. Tommy Arey was given in the home of Mrs. O. L. Nichols, Jr. Co-hostesses for the affair were Mrs. Bobby Moore of Greenville, Mrs. Herbert McGee and Mrs. Jimmy Lipsey of Celeste.

On the lace covered table in the dining was an unusual arrangement of white, pink, and blue daisies in a crystal bowl complemented by the crystal punch bowl. Noted throughout the entertaining rooms were bouquets of sweet peas and gladiolas.

The dining room and den were made focal points of interest by the beautifully arranged gift tables. Placed on the hearth of the fireplace was a white birdbath, with an arrangement of pink roses and sweet peas flowing from the top. On either side was a large stork.

Thirty guests called during the evening and presented the honoree with many lovely gifts.
