30 YEARS AGO - APRIL 17, 1981

Tamara Diane Dearing and Donald Dean Garcia

Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Dearing, Sr. of Celeste announce the engagement of their daughter, Tamara Diane, to Donald Dean Garcia, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Garcia of Wolfe City. The wedding is planned for June 19 at 6 p.m. in the home of Nolan E. Jones of Greenville. Miss Dearing is a junior at Celeste High School. Garcia is a 1978 graduate of Wolfe City High School and is employed at Hennington's in Wolfe City.

Mens Softball Tourney

There will be a Men's Softball Tournament April 16, 17 and 18, at the Celeste baseball park. All proceeds from the concession stand will go to the Celeste Youth Association. Come and enjoy the games.

Gary Lyon Receives Honor

Gary Lyon a May graduate of East Texas State University, Commerce, has received an honor in the form of a scholarship from the S. S. Huebner Foundation for Insurance Education. The liberal grant and privileges will be available in the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Penn.

This grant for 1981-82 is for tuition and fees plus a tax free monthly living allowance of $550. Other favors are included. The grant will be renewed for up to three years, according to the student's performance.

This is a doctoral program and promises aids and expenses in preparation of the dissertation Lyons is to send to the Wharton Doctoral Program a syllabus of the calculus that has taking on E.T.S.U.

Lyon is the son of Mr. and Mrs. (Bethalyne Lyday) Lyon. He is a graduate of Celeste High School.

50 YEARS AGO - APRIL 21, 1961

Celeste Seniors Will Have Stew April 28

Members of the Senior Class of Celeste High School, their sponsors, and room mothers have completed plans for a Stew to be held at the local High School on Friday night, April 28 from 6:00 to 8:30 P.M. This will complete the money-raising campaign of the Seniors before their lang-awaited Senior Trip.

Tickets are on sale, and youmay secure yours from any member of the class. The price of a ticket is only 50c. Come and enjoy the stew and help the Senior Class.

A cake Bingo will be provided for your entertainment.

Mrs. Van Schoick Reviews Book For Thursday Club

Mrs. R. D. Van Schoick of Leonard gave a very interesting review of "The Galient Mrs. Stonewall", the book relating happenings during the Civil War, when members of Celeste Thursday Club met in the home of Mrs. Rex Denny in Celeste Thursday, April 13.

Mrs. George McGee gave the devotional "Joash".

During the social hour refreshments were served to members and five visitors, Mmes. Mary Roach, Rex Denny, Jr., Jack Barbee, Mildred Roach and Van Schoick.
