On Saturday, May 12, Leonard city elections will take place in the City Hall from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Up for election this year is the mayor race with two candidates, Willie Johnson and Margy S. Hall. The winner of this race will replace Bill Yoss as Leonard City Mayor, who bowed out gracefully this year after seeing others interested in the position.

The city council has four candidates on the ballot for three positions. Sue Hale has filed to fill the unexpired term of Tammy Barnes, with one year left on the term. Jane Blackerby has filed to fill her place again with Penny Edwards and Justin Perry also running for a council seat. Darrell Grintz opted to not run for re-election this year and the election is an at-large election with the two out of three candidates receiving the most votes to occupy the two full-term council seats.

The City of Leonard will hold a special called council meeting on Thursday, May 17, at 5:30 p.m. to canvass the results of the May 12 election and swear in new officials. The City will host a farewell reception for outgoing Mayor Bill Yoss and outgoing Municipal Court Judge Jim McIntire at 3:30 p.m. prior to the meeting. The public is invited and welcome to attend.

National primaries will follow this election at the end of May.
