Leonard police release statement on Thursday night fatality accident

Leonard Police Chief Rex Clark released the following statement Friday morning about the fatality accident that occurred north of Leonard Thursday evening, July 21:

"The Leonard Police Department is investigating a one vehicle rollover fatality accident in which two teenagers died. The accident occurred on FM 896 approximately two miles north of Leonard on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at approximately 6:59 p.m. The vehicle was traveling north bound when it topped a crest and became air born, causing the driver to loose control. The vehicle rolled several times, resulting in one passenger being ejected. Alexandria Hilliard, 16, of Dodd City and Zachary Kelton, 19, of Ector were pronounced dead at the scene by Fannin County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Alan Hale.

The driver, Brandon Richards, 19, of Ector and a third passenger Briann Hilliard, 15, of Dodd City were both taken by air ambulance to Parkland Hospital for injuries.

The Leonard Police Department and Texas DPS are continuing the investigation at this time."
