FUMC plans special services for Holy Week

April 14, 2011 - During the next week, the First United Methodist Church in Leonard will have several special events in recognition of Holy Week. The church invites the community to be a part of these events as the congregation celebrates the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

On April 17, the church will celebrate Palm Sunday from 8:30 - 10:55 a.m. Children's Palm Parade will be held at the 10:55 a.m. service.

On Thursday, April 21, the church will celebrate Holy Thursday at 7 p.m. This special time will include a re-enactment of the Last Supper of Jesus and his twelve disciples by the men of FUMC in Leonard. Communion will be served at the table where Jesus is host.

On April 22 from noon until 3 p.m. a series of readings and meditations on Jesus' last words will be held at First United Methodist Church. The Seven Last Words from the Cross will be the theme.

At 7 p.m. on Good Friday, April 22, the church will hold Tenebrae Service - a service of darkness that helps those attending remember the crucifixion of Jesus. Music will be provided by Chris and Martha Myre.

On Easter Sunday, April 24, a sunrise service is scheduled at 6:30 a.m. on the lawn. The singing will be accompanied by Jackie Bonds on guitar. At 8:30 a.m. a Celebration Service will be held in the Sanctuary, featuring the Youth Praise Band. At 10:55 a.m. there will be a Celebration Service in the sanctuary featuring the praise team and choir. Pastor Martha Myre will be preaching at all three services. The message at the 6:30 p.m. service will be different than that at the 8:30 and 10:55 morning services.
