Randolph Turns Down Consolidation With Leonard Schools

All 139 Leonard voters Saturday approved the proposition calling for consolidation of the Randolph district with the Leonard school district, while at Randolph the proposition was rejected by an overwhelming vote of 81-32.

The Leonard election was held in the city hall with Allen Spies as judge.

Kenneth Robinson was judge at Randolph where the election was held at the school building.

Graduation Exercises For The Leonard Elementary School Tuesday Night, May 23

Mike Ivy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Merle Ivy of Leonard will graduate from the 1961 eighth grade class with the honor of valedictorian. The 13 year old student participates in all sports and still finds time to study and attain an excellent average of 95 2/3 for his yearly average.

Mike is a member of the Church of Christ at Bailey. In school he has held class offices ranging from president to parliamentarian. Although he lives on a farm five miles from Leonard he has gained a perfect attendance record in recent years.

Nancy Jo Sudderth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe G. Sudderth, is salutatorian of her eighth grade graduating class with a 93.5 average. She has served as president of her class the past two years.

Nancy attends the Church of Christ in Leonard.

The honor student has a nice personality and takes part in all school activities. She has been a member of the pep squad two years and will serve as drummer during the 1961-62 school term.

Coach Lytal Will Take Position In Greenville School

Hobart Lytal, Leonard high school football and basketball coach, has been elected baseball coach and assistant football line coach in Greenville high school.

Mr. Lytal has also been principal of Leonard high school the past year. He came to Leonard from Archer City where he was assistant football line coach two years. Prior to that he was assistant football coach at Celeste one year.

He graduated from Quinlan high school in 1953 and received his degree in physical education from Austin College at Sherman in 1957.

He had a successful year in football and basketball coaching in Leonard this past year.

The popular young man, his wife, Gayle and young son, James, have made many friends during the short time they have lived in Leonard.Howe Beats Tigers In Bi-District Baseball Tuesday

Howe Beats Tigers In Bi-District Baseball Tuesday

Leonard lost their last game of the season Tuesday by a 12-6 score to Howe. This was for the Bi-District championship. Mistakes were costly for the Tigers as they committed 9 errors. It was a bad day all around as it seemed that both teams were trying to give the game away.

The Tigers had a good year anyway, and were due to play a bad game as they have been playing heads-up ball all year or they wouldnt have gone as far as they have. They won their district championship of the year, and the first baseball championship in many years.

Billy Steele went all the way on the mound but got poor support in the first 5 innings as Howe scored 7 unearned runs. Then Steele weakened in the sixth after 2 were out and gave up 4 runs on three hits and 2 walks. David Campbell led Leonard hitters as he collected 2 of their 5 hits.
