"Swingin' In The Breeze"

By Andrea Connett Lanier

He was born one calm spring morn.

Breech, 'cause he was wide.

And tho we tried to help her

The baby's momma died.

A finer lookin' calf,

the farm had never seen,

with curly thick brown hair

His eyes were emerald green.

They named the new calf, Dogie.

He grew by leaps and bounds.

Suckin' down the bottles,

And sleepin' with the hounds.

The day came for the cow boss

to cut and brand his herd.

All stood and looked at Dogie.

But no one said a word.

All long eared and frightened,

He waited for his turn.

Afraid of what would happen next,

With nowhere left to turn.

But much to his surprise...

He only got a brand !

He left with both calf fries,

To be the new bull of the land.
