Funeral Services for Dorothy Faye Newby Smith, age 74 of Leonard, are scheduled for Wednesday, March 7, at 2 p.m. at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel in Leonard with David Riley and Terry O'Toole officiating. Burial will follow in the Leonard Cemetery. Family visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6, at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel in Leonard. She passed away Saturday, March 3, 2012, at her residence after fighting a courageous battle against cancer.

Smith was born Jan. 1, 1938 in McKinney, the daughter of Harold Richard and Ruby Dee Walters Newby. She married Gary Lynn Smith on Aug. 1, 1972, in Rockwall. Her husband is a recently retired rural mail carrier working out of Leonard. She was a member of the Blanton Chapel Methodist Church and she worked at the Leonard SNAP Center and the Trenton Community Center. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.

She is survived by her husband, Gary Smith of Leonard; her sons, Stephen Alexander of Leonard, Ronald Alexander of Bonham and Jeff Alexander of Leonard; her daughter, Barbara Hanson of Garland; her sisters, Ann Shelton of Pasadena, Linda Feagan of Honey Grove, Joy Thornhill of Anna and Anita Hinson of Leonard; her brother, Tommy Newby of Princeton; 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many others that she basically "adopted" as her own.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Feagan and Sharon Clark, and one brother, Billy Joe Newby.
