Feb. 24, 2011 - Services for O. L. Nichols, Jr., were held Wednesday, Feb. 23, at 3 p.m. at Coker Mathews Funeral Home in Greenville. Rev. Bill Eason officiated. Interment followed at Celeste Cemetery. Nichols passed away Feb. 21, 2011, at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.

Nichols was born Nov. 22, 1936, in Lane, the son of Laute and Hattie Sumrow Nichols. He married Kay Armstrong on June 23, 1956, in Celeste. He was retired from Southwestern Bell and was a dairy farmer and seller at Cumby Auction. For thirty years he served as a member of the Hunt County Fair Board. He served three terms as a board member of the Celeste ISD and was a member of the United Methodist Church of Celeste.

Nichols enjoyed the "country way". His love of livestock, trips to Sulphur Springs Dairy Auction and his role at the Cumby Auction each week were important events to him. The love of his life, however, was the constant planning of adventures and stories for his grandson, Kolton.

Surviving are his wife, Kay; sons, Les and Craig Nichols; grandchildren, Kolten and Sky Nichols. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Rayford and Dan Nichols.

Robbie Barnard, Jim Nichols, Brad Nichols, Steve Armstrong, Mike Armstrong, Kelly Armstrong, Ron Saye and Charlie Morrison were pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Hunt County Fair Board, Tim Nichols, Dr. James Nicholson and Tony Maddox.
