May 12, 2011 - Madeline Wells, an eighth grade student at L.H. Rather Middle School, received a cash award for her first place entry in the "Get HookedRead A Book" bookmark contest sponsored by The Fannin County Republican Women, PAC. A reception was held for the winner and participants on Saturday, May 7, at the Creative Arts Center. During the reception, the winner autographed copies of her entry.

The second place award winner is Ashley Woodruff also from L.H. Rather Middle School.

Sandra Ward, chairman of this years bookmark contest reported "There were so many wonderful contributions from the area schools and this is the second time the first and second place winners came from the same school. FCRW appreciated Principal Karol Alexander and Art Teacher Tammy Balch for their active role in encouraging their students to compete in this county-wide contest."

Honorable Mention awards went to the following students : Holly Lewis, Trenton Middle School; Cris Allen, Honey Grove I.S.D.; Zachary Rhone, Leonard I.S.D.; Jack Neal, Savoy I.S.D.; and Amberlyn Borowski, Ector, I.S.D.
