May 12, 2011 - Organizers need cake, candy, pastry, chocolate and other sugar creation entries

The Denison Art Council is putting out a call for art, sweet art that is - cakes, candies, pastries, chocolates, and any other sugar creation a culinary artist can dream up. The Sweet Jubilee is an upcoming event on Saturday, June 18, that will showcase the talented artists, bakers and hobbyists of the Texoma and Metroplex area. This Downtown Denison event will be fun for the whole family with cake demos, shopping, vendors, and plenty of sweets on hand for tasting.

This is a call to all artists, cake decorators, hobbyists, sugar enthusiasts of all ages - let your imagination run wild - if you need inspiration, there is a whimsical "Candyland" or "Willy Wonka" style theme but creativity is encouraged. Sign up and pick up an entry form at the Chamber of Commerce in Denison at 313 W. Woodard St. Entry forms are also availalbe online at http://denisonartsculture.com/cake-sugar-art-show/

If you need supplies like cake models also known as "cake dummies" or just need to hone your skills - classes for all levels and the tools you need are available at Patty Cakes on 224 W. Houston in Sherman. And if candy is your muse, visit the Sweet Side on 330 Lamar in Sherman.

If baking and frosting isn't your cup of tea, but you would still like to participate, we would love to have your help - come join us for the fun! If you are interested in volunteering or helping with the event, contact the Denison Chamber of Commerce to get on our signup list.

Visit DAC's website at www.smalltownbigart.com or call the Denison Chamber of Commerce at 903.465.1551. The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 18, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
