Jan. 27, 2011 - 2011 looks to be an exciting year for the Fannin County Republican Women. On Saturday, members of the executive board met for a day long planning session. In a change from the previous year, the FCRW will meet once a month on Monday's in the Elizabeth May Room at the American Bank of Texas. With monthly meetings comes the opportunity for education and continuity of sharing of information. It was determined the organization has need for several new committees which will give all the members an opportunity to share their special skills. The board discussed and concentrated on topics for the monthly meetings which were felt to have the most impact and influence on the lives of their members. There will be a variety of speakers within and from outside the area who can speak on specific subjects unique to Fannin County.

Community service projects were also examined. A plan is being developed to poll the voting membership for their input on organizations providing services throughout the county that might benefit from the FCRW's support.

An update was given on this years "Get HookedRead a Book" bookmark contest for 7th and 8th graders throughout Fannin County who wish to enter their artwork. It was confirmed awards for the winning designs would be presented on May 7th during a party at the Creative Arts Center.May 21st was confirmed to be the date of the Annual Armed Forces Day. The board was provided with the names of the event committee chairs.

There was also discussion concerning membership. The Fannin County Republican Women currently allow spouses to become associate members with payment of associate dues. It was determined at this time not to make any changes. Brought to the boards' attention were dues outstanding by various members where applications had been received without dues. Plans are in the works on how to encourage timely receipt of outstanding membership dues. The board had been made aware by the membership of the need for name badges. Members will now receive a badge to wear at all meetings. The planning session also reviewed the yearly budget and bylaws.

The Executive Board agreed that the 2011 focus of the Fannin County Republican women would be growth; as an organization of like minded women and through education of members while encouraging participation within the organization.

The first meeting of 2011 for members and guests of the Fannin County Republican Women will be Monday, Feb. 7 at 6 p.m. at the Elizabeth May Room American Bank of Texas, located at 120 W. Sam Rayburn in Bonham.
