Winners named in FFA Booster Club cake decorating contest

May 19, 2011 - Each year the Celeste FFA Booster Club has a cake decorating contest during the annual barbecue dinner and auction. The cakes are judged by the public during the barbecue dinner. This year in the kids' cake decorating division Jaxson Dillard won first place with his rodeo cake, Dusty Soles won second with her rag doll cake and third place went to Kaylee Saye with her horse cake. Thanks to all the kids that participated in the contest and congratulations to the winners. All the cakes were sold during the auction and the proceeds help to benefit Celeste FFA students with Hunt County Fair projects and scholarships for graduating Celeste FFA seniors.

Cawthon's Receive Yard Award

Don and Barbara Cawthon won the Thursday Club "Yard of the Month" award for the new look given their place, 101 S. 3rd Street. The place is quite evident from the highway. The improvements in planting and plot edging is pleasing.

 

Evans wins cabbage-growing contest

May 12, 2011 - Every year Celeste Elementary third grade students enter a cabbage growing contest sponsored by Bonnie Plant Farm's Third Grade Cabbage Program www.bonnieplants.com. Each third grader is given a cabbage plant to take home and grow.

This contest is designed to get kids interested in gardening and growing vegetables. The contest winner from each class can enter a state competition for a $1,000 scholarship. Britton Evans from Mrs. Riskey's third grade class has been selected as winner. He is eligible to compete in the State competition.

Thursday Club hears program from Lewis

May 12, 2011 - The Celeste Thursday Club met on April 28 at the Celeste Bank. Rachel Clark, Mary Ann Hooks, Allene Mize, Lynda Lou Thorp, Frances Armstrong, Patsy Whitworth, Sarah Andry, Judy Hubbard, Mary Jane James, Bethalyne Lyon, and Jo Willa Pierson attended. Frances Reynolds attended as an associate member. For roll call, members related the number of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren they had. Hubbard read the minutes and they were approved. After the treasurer, Whitworth gave her report, the Civic Committee suggested that $75 be given to the Celeste Elementary Library, $50 to Crawford Moore for art supplies for the Celeste High School, and $50 for Curly Combs for the upkeep of the Audie Murphy Garden in Celeste.

Holdridge Receives Scholarship

Chuck Holdridge, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Holdridge, a senior at Celeste High School recently received a four year $16,000 scholarship instituted by the Tenneco Corporation, of Durfield, Illinois.
