June 9, 2011 - The Celeste Elementary Pre-K class celebrated their school year with a "We're Ready for Kindergarten!" program on Thursday, May 26. The students were given a certificate of accomplishment for all their hard work in Pre-K.

Lift-a-thon raises funds for athletics

June 9, 2011 - The Celeste Blue Devils held the Second Annual Blue Devil Lift - A - Thon to help raise funds for the athletic program on May 26. High school and junior high students maxed out with their best lifts. High school junior, Allen Lyday, claimed the top honor by lifting 475 pounds. The Celeste Athletic Booster Club served hot dogs and drinks at the big event.

The Coffee Club

June 9, 2011 - Gwen Schroth served as hostess at the Celeste Coffee Club meeting on June 1. Those attending were Frances Reynolds, Ruby Miller, Melba Compton, Judy Hubbard, Bethalyne Lyon, Karen Lyon, Marjorie Denny, Mary Ann Hooks, Jo Willa Pierson, Rachel Clark, Vicki J. Griffis and Barbara Ashworth.

Schroth decorated the tables with some of her pretty and unusual doll collection from different countries. She shared with the other members some information from each one. The ladies enjoyed fellowship and a variety of refreshments.

Bob Barnard Elected President 1st Nat'l Bank

Robert B. (Bob) Barnard was elected president of the Celeste First National Bank in a meeting of directors of the bank Wednesday, June 3, 1981.

Other changes include the elections of Bill Stevens of Dallas as Chief Executive Officer, David Kent, Celeste, new employee in training as a lending officer, and Albert Granberry, retiring as president after 19 years, 35 years total. He is now Chairman of the Board.

Nan Chambliss Receives Thursday Club Award

This year's Thursday Club Award was presented to Nanette Chambliss at graduation ceremonies on Friday night, May 29.

Nan is an honor graduate who has been active in many school activities; Pep Squad for four years, being head majorette her senior year, basketball for four years, track for three years, F.H.A. for four years, class officer for three years and annual staff business manager. Classmates honored her by electing her Miss Celeste High School.

The $100 award is given to a student who enrolls in a college school and does not receive other monetary assistance. Nanette plans to attend East Texas State University in the fall.
