Dorothy Faye Newby Smith

Funeral Services for Dorothy Faye Newby Smith, age 74 of Leonard, are scheduled for Wednesday, March 7, at 2 p.m. at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel in Leonard with David Riley and Terry O'Toole officiating. Burial will follow in the Leonard Cemetery. Family visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6, at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel in Leonard. She passed away Saturday, March 3, 2012, at her residence after fighting a courageous battle against cancer.

Smith was born Jan. 1, 1938 in McKinney, the daughter of Harold Richard and Ruby Dee Walters Newby. She married Gary Lynn Smith on Aug. 1, 1972, in Rockwall. Her husband is a recently retired rural mail carrier working out of Leonard. She was a member of the Blanton Chapel Methodist Church and she worked at the Leonard SNAP Center and the Trenton Community Center. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.

Lillie Faye Taylor

Funeral services for Lillie Faye Taylor, age 81 of Blue Ridge, will be held Friday, March 2, at 2 p.m. at the Hurst’s Fielder Baker Chapel in Farmersville with Denny Gorena officiating. Interment will follow in the Blue Ridge Cemetery. Family visitation is scheduled for Thursday, March 1, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home in Farmersville. She passed away Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, in McKinney.

Taylor was born March 22, 1923, in Tom Bean, the daughter of Wesley and Lillie Davis Decker. She married Leo Taylor on Aug. 27, 1939 and he preceded her in death in 1999. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

 

Rob Roy Gattis

Graveside services for Rob Roy Gattis, 91, of Van Alstyne, were held Wednesday, Feb. 

29, at 10 a.m. at Cannon Cemetery in Van Alstyne with Gary Gibbs officiating. He passed away Friday, Feb. 24, 2012.

Gattis was born July 30, 1920, in Anna, the son of Jessie and Emma (Britton) Gattis. He grew up in the community of Kelly in Collin County and graduated from Anna High School. He met and later married Mary Louise Murphy of Van Alstyne. They were married on May 26, 1940 at the First Christian Church parsonage, where they were lifelong members and very active in church affairs. Mary and he were lifetime companions until her death on Feb. 8, 2008.

 

Henry Kenneth Cunnyngham

Funeral Services for Henry Kenneth Cunnyngham, age 92 of Pike, were held Sunday, Feb. 26, at 2 p.m. at Cross Pointe Baptist Church with Ed Long officiating. Burial followed in the Pike Cemetery. Cunnyngham passed away at Homestead of McKinney on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012.

Cunnyngham was born Oct. 20, 1919, in Blue Ridge, the son of Elbert Alton and Selma Carlton Cunnyngham. He married Leona Mae Vandagriff in August of 1945 in Pike. He worked in road construction as a motor grader operator retiring from Collin County. He also worked as a farmer and rancher, enjoying raising and training horses. He was a very active member of the Cross Pointe Baptist Church, the Leonard Riding Club and the American Legion. He served his country as a member of the United States Army.

 

Mary Oneta Holt

Graveside services for Mary "Oneta" Holt, 92-year-old Trenton resident, were held Sunday, Jan. 22, at 2:30 p.m. at Burns Cemetery in Trenton. Dan Gurley officiated and Tom Mc Holmes provided special music. Holt went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 18, 2012, passing away peacefully in the home of her daughter, with her family at her bedside.
