30 YEARS AGO - APRIL 10, 1981

Bo Lipsey Retires After 37 Years

Bo Lipsey, owner and operator of the Kingston Grocery Store, has retired after thirty-seven years.

Lipsey is a 1931 graduate of Celeste High School. He played football under the coaching of Joe Murphy. Former football players that year were Bill Berry, Billie Tom Roach, Vendell Hudson, Bill Jones, Charley Doyle, Jess Mark Jr., G. D. Hyde and Sparky Chaney.

Lipsey started the grocery business in 1937. Leaving in 1943 to join the CB's of the Navy and returned to Kingston grocery business in 1945. And has been their ever since. Up until recently the store was open seven days a week.

Lipsey has two sons, Ronald Lipsey of Garland and Danny Lipsey of Kingston and four grandchildren.

Danny and wife Debbie Lipsey will operate the Kingston store now.

 

Kindergarten holds successful Rodeo

April 7, 2011 - The Celeste Elementary Kindergarten performed in the annual kindergarten rodeo on Thursday, March 31. The rodeo was complete with a grand entry, barrel racing, steer roping, bull riding and a grand finale including the Chicken Dance and the Cotton-Eyed-Joe.

Seventh graders take part in project

April 7, 2011 - Region 10 Library Consultant, Terry Roper, visited with seventh grade students from Mrs. Hicks' English Language Arts class on Wednesday, March 3. Celeste Junior High School is part of a Region 10 technology pilot project called The Future is Now.

 

Willess named CASA Volunteer of the Year

JApril 7, 2011 - o Willess of Celeste took home the top honor of the night at the recent Volunteer Banquet of the Fannin County Children's Center. Willess was named the CASA Volunteer of the Year for her work in advocating for abused children in foster care.

CASA Program Director Joyce McGehee and CASA Casework Supervisor Sandy Hood both described Willess's volunteer efforts over the last eight years. Hood talked about how each time Willess finished a case, she would say she was going to take a break for awhile, but then would be calling within a few days, asking if there was another case she could take.

 

Thursday Club

April 7, 2011 - The Celeste Thursday Club met on March 24 at the Celeste High School Library. Rachel Clark, Mary Ann Hooks, Allene Mize, Lynda Lou Thorp, Frances Armstrong, Patsy Whitworth, Lynn Felty, Sarah Andry, Chris Carrington, Judy Hubbard, Mary Jane James, Bethalyne Lyon, and Jo Willa Pierson attended the meeting. Allene Mize gave the devotion about life being a gift, enjoy it, and laugh often.
