Judge declares April Child Abuse Awareness Month

April 7, 2011 - Fannin County Judge Spanky Carter has officially declared April to be Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month. Fannin County is joining with the State of Texas and the United States in observing this month.

The Fannin County Children's Center and the Child Welfare Board of Fannin County are organizing several events and activities for this occasion. "No Excuse for Child Abuse" is the slogan of the month. Local businesses, schools and churches with outdoor marquee signs are encouraged to post this slogan on their signs during the month of April.

Organizations providing rodeo camps for the disabled

April 7, 2011 - The Cowboy Disability Association, The Disabled Veterans Rodeo Association and The Disabled Rodeo Association, non-profit organizations, were created to provide year-round weekly rodeo camps that can be done for disabled veterans and/or disabled people within reasonable limitations of each persons disability. These camps are geared toward giving attendees hope and therefore decreasing the chances for depression. Any disabled person will be allowed to attend regardless if they are physically or mentally disabled.

 

George Blakey joins delegates at State Conference

April 7, 2011 - The Texas Society NSDAR joined for its 112th Annual State Conference in March. Eight members of the George Blakey Chapter enjoyed the festivities for the four day conference. Annual awards at the conference included Americanism Award received by Mesfin Samuel; Community Service Award received by Traci Lynne Kenner; Conservation Medal received by David Schuler and American History Award received by Rosemary Rumbley.

 

St. George daughter accepted to Oxford

April 7, 2011 - This fall, Ina St. George, daughter of Philip and Myrna St. George of Trenton, will journey to England to complete her Doctorate degree at Oxford University. St. George was notified this week of her acceptance to Oxford. Ina received her Bachelor degree from The University of Texas at Austin, and a Master of Arts, as well as a Master of Science degree from The University College of London. Both Master degrees are in the field of Museum Conservation.

 

Red Cross holding annual garage sale

April 7, 2011 - The Texoma Area Chapter of The American Red Cross provides emergency services, shelters, and medications to victims of disasters in Cooke, Grayson and Fannin counties without charge. The Chapter also provides training in CPR, swimming, babysitting classes and shelter operation to name just a few.
