Master Gardeners will meet on Monday, May 2

April 21, 2011 - The Fannin County Master Gardeners will hold their business meeting on Monday, May 2, at noon in the Williams Building at the First Presbyterian Church located at the corner of Center and 9th Street in Bonham.

Don't have room for a garden? Join the group after the business meeting - at approximately 1 p.m. - for a special program on square foot gardening, presented by Ann Golan, who is a master gardener from Lamar County.

The Master Gardeners welcome anyone in the community who is interested in learning more about gardening to attend this presentation. Those attending do not have to be a master gardener. For more information please contact the Fannin County Extension Office at 903-583-7453. Texas AgriLife Extension programs serve people of all ages regardless of socioeconomic level, race, color, sex, religion, disability, or national origin.

 

Local DAR chapter hears a program on First Lady Caroline Harrison

April 21, 2011 - The April meeting of the George Blakey Daughters of the American Revolution welcomed twelve members and one guest at the Elizabeth May Room of American Bank. Hostesses Alice Creecy and Nita Brandenburger presented a beautiful Easter theme.

Regent Betsy Sterkel shared a few upcoming lineage workshops to be held in Greenville on April 30 from 10 a.m. to noon and in Gainesville on June 18 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.. The Bertha Voyer Library in Honey Grove will also host a workshop on April 30 from 10 a.m. to noon.

 

County holding meetings on animal control

April 21, 2011 - There will be a series of meetings over the county regarding the animal control issue and decision by the Commissioners Court.

The first meeting will be Monday, May 2, at 5:30 p.m. at the courthouse in Bonham, followed by a second one at 7:30 p.m. in Honey Grove.

Meetings are also scheduled the following day, Tuesday, May 3, at 5:30 p.m. at the Savoy Church of Christ, and at 7:30 p.m. at Leonard City Hall. County Judge Spanky Carter and Precinct 2 Commissioner will present at the meeting in Leonard.

 

Master Gardener training offered by AgriLife

April 21, 2011 - Texas AgriLife Extension Service is offering the Master Gardener training beginning Wednesday, Sept. 7, and continuing every Wednesday through Nov. 9. Classes will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will be held in Greenville at the Fletcher Warren Civic Center. The cost of this training is $175, which includes the cost of the Texas Master Gardener Handbook, supplies and handouts and field trips.

Fannin County will be limited to sending five applicants to the training. Applications are available at the Fannin County Extension office, at the South Annex, 210 South Main Street, Bonham (903)583-7453, or online athttp://txmg.org/fannin/. The deadline for applications to be turned into the Extension office is July 1. Applications are county-specific!

 

Harmony House hosting Chuck Brodksy May 15

April 21, 2011 - On Sunday, May 15, Asheville, N.C.'s Chuck Brodksy, will perform his original tunes at Wildscape Acres (ten miles north of Bonham) at 4 p.m. in the intimacy of Harmony House Concerts. Just a quick visit to Chuck's website, www.chuckbrodsky.com, will give an idea of what talent this troubadour has and what fun will be in store for those attending his Harmony House concert. Take a look at his photo gallery online... it looks like a musical travel log... from Latvia & Lithuania to Denmark to Ireland to Nova Scotia to Canada to Kerrville Folk Festivals and beyond! Yes, and pretty soon, Wildscape Acres in Ravenna will be in that photo gallery of his venues! Some song clips and the lyrics to many of his songs are also available online.
