Local DAR highlights spies in the American Revolution

March 3, 2011 - A large crowd of members and guests enjoyed a wonderful look into the journeys of five spies who served during the American Revolution. Dr. Wendell and Linda Edwards presented a wealth of information on five spies who greatly contributed to the Revolution.

Enoch Crosby, John Honeyman, Martha Bratton, Lydia Darragh and Nancy Morgan Heart all sacrificed their own lives, as well as the lives of their families for American victory.

 

Emergency farm loan applications being accepted

March 3, 2011 - Applications for emergency farm loans for losses caused by THE DROUGHT, MAY 1, 2010 THROUGH DECEMBER 31, 2010 are being accepted at the Farm Service Agency (FSA) office located in Bonham, David Dunmon said today.

Hunt, Collin and Fannin counties (along with surrounding counties) were recently named by Secretary of Agriculture to be eligible for loans to cover part of actual production losses and physical losses resulting from the drought.

 

"Preserving the Speaker's Legacy" exhibit opens at the Sam Rayburn House Museum, Museum preparing to close for renovations

Feb. 24, 2011 - Major changes are coming to the Sam Rayburn House Museum. Beginning March 21, the site will close to the public for approximately ten months. During this time, the house museum will undergo a historic preservation renovation in order to preserve, protect and stabilize the structure. Improvements to the museum's visitor center and portions of the grounds surrounding the house will also be made. The project is under the supervision of architects from the Historic Sites Division of the Texas Historical Commission and Quimby-McCoy Preservation Architecture firm of Dallas.

FCFCC's You Hold the Key fundraiser this Saturday

Feb. 24, 2011 - The Fannin County Family Crisis Center will be holding their 4th Annual You Hold the Key fundraiser dinner Saturday, Feb. 26, at the First Baptist Church community building in Bonham at 6 p.m. The fun-filled evening will include dinner, entertainment and both a silent auction and live auction.

 

Free progressive history tour scheduled for Friday evening

Feb. 24, 2011 - On Friday, Feb. 25 from 6-8 p.m. there will be a Progressive History Tour, a FREE event, held in Bonham.
