One headed to regionals in boys track

April 21, 2011 - The Leonard boys' track team competed in the District 12-2A meet last week, and one - sophomore Alec Brockus, who was undefeated in the 1600-meter all season - will head to the Regional meet in two races.

Placing for the varsity boys were Alec Brockus - first in the 3200-meter, first in the 1600-meter; Dario Gomez - sixth in the Discus; Jarrell Washington - fifth in the 100-meter dash; Wesley Orr - fourth in the 300 hurdles, seventh in the 110 hurdles; Ty Lynn - seventh in 400-meter dash; Tyler Turner - eighth in triple jump; and Tyler Turner, Ty Lynn, Storm Taylor, and Jarrell Washington - sixth in the 800-meter relay.

Placing for the JV boys were as follows: Bradley Scruggs - first in 3200-meter, first in 1600-meter; Jordan Buckaloo - first in Discus, sixth in Shot put; Reed McBroom, Justin Bennett, Alex Taylor, Scott Bratt - sixth in 800-meter relay; and Alex Taylor, Justin Bennett, Scott Bratt, Bradley Scruggs - sixth in mile relay.

 

Beta Club inducts new members, officers

April 21, 2011 - The students at Leonard High School participated in an induction ceremony for Beta Club recently, with new members taking the Beta Club oath, and next year's officers swearing to do their respective duties. LHS senior class celebrates prom

April 21, 2011 - The 2011 Senior Class of Leonard High School celebrated their Senior Prom on April 16 at the Longhorn Hill Party Barn. Seniors arrived to enjoy time together outside as they took photos and compared dresses and tuxes for the evening. After the photo opportunity, the seniors began prom entertainment with a presentation of pictures from the past. The prom night ended with a dance for the seniors and their dates.

 

Junior High Band earns first UIL trophy in school history

April 21, 2011 - On April 12th the Junior High Band traveled to Pottsboro High School to compete in the Middle School Region 25 UIL Concert & Sight-reading competition for the first time in school history. The band played three prepared pieces for the concert portion of the contest, and then performed a piece written specifically for the contest in the sight-reading room. The band received a 2nd Division Rating (Excellent) on their stage performance, and a 1st Division Rating (Superior) in Sight-reading, bringing home the groups first UIL Trophy. - Photo courtesy of Matt Stidham

 

Tennis team competes in final matches, Rushing advancing to regional tournament

April 14, 2011 - The Leonard High School tennis team competed in the 12-AA district tennis competition on April 7 and 8. Results of that meet are as follows: freshmen Kami Parker and Maddison Mashburn placed fourth in Girls Doubles; sophomores Max Scoggins and Taylor Bishop placed third in Mixed Doubles; freshman Clayton Terry placed third in Boys Singles; sophomore Rylee Rushing placed second in Girls Singles and will advance to the Regional Tennis Meet on April 20-21.
