JH teams place second, third at Gunter track meet

March 24, 2011 - The Leonard Junior High girl's track teams competed in the Gunter Middle School Relays on Monday and both teams - eighth and seventh - finished in the top three.

Competing and placing in the top six for the seventh grade team were as follows: 100-meter dash: Ciara Bush - first with a time of 13.48; 200-meter dash: Ciara Bush - third with a time of 29.95; 1200-meter run: Chelsea Brockus - first with a time of 4:31; 2400-meter run: Chelsea Brockus - first with a time of 9:58; 1600-meter relay: Leonard team - sixth with a time of 5:27; Shotput: Paige Albert - third with a distance of 23'-3 1/2"; and McKenzie Crossland - fifth with a distance of 23'-0"; Discus: McKenzie Crossland - second with a distance of 61'-3 1/2"; and Cheyenne Vandertuin - tied for fourth with a distance of 55'-10"; Triple Jump: Ciara Bush - third with a distance of 27'-2 1/2"; and High Jump: Cheyenne McCartney - fifth with a distance of 4'-2". The team earned 66 points overall and finished in third place.

 

Martin, Speir and Gomez lead golf teams at Webb Hill

March 24, 2011 -Sixteen schools crowded the course Monday at windy Webb Hill Country Club for another Cooper/Caddo Mills invitational golf tournament, and the Leonard Tigers finished in the middle of the pack in eighth place at 383.

 

Girls finish first, fifth at state powerlifting

March 24, 2011 - While many were in Corpus Christi last week for spring break, two Leonard girl powerlifters were there to compete in the state meet for the Texas High School Powerlifting Association. While most in the area were enjoying a time of relaxing and leisure, junior April Jones, who was named the two-time girl's powerlifting champion in her weight division at the meet, said it was "busy" for her and senior teammate Cadi Grantland. Jones clenched the gold in the 198 weight class and Grantland earned a respectable fifth place finish in the 97 weight division.

 

Varsity teams take second and fourth at Avon Rice Relays

March 17, 2011 - The Leonard High School varsity boy's and girl's track teams competed in the 27th Annual Avon Rice Relays in Emory last weekend and showed strong finishes overall. The boys earned points in almost every competition and finished fourth overall, and the girls placed second behind hosting school Rains.

 

Varsity softball and baseball face the Mustangs

March 17, 2011 - The varsity softball and baseball team were each playing home competitions against Paris Chisum Tuesday. For the Tigers, Ty McKinney (pictured top left below) pitched from the mound in the fourth inning, and an out by first baseman Chance Whitworth (pictured top right below) on the first play of the inning maintained the 0-0 score for the time being. The Tigers won the game 3-2. For the Lady Tigers, Jensen Sutton hits one to left field (pictured bottom left below) and then slides safely into second base for a double (bottom right below).
