Dec. 26, 2011 - On Dec. 7, Fannin County Narcotics Investigators executed a search and arrest warrant in the 800 block of E. 8th St. in Bonham. During the search, the suspect, Juan Carlos Paz-Cannales, managed to escape from custody. Investigators believed at that time that Paz-Cannales possibly fled to an area residence and was likely driven away by friends.

An information release was forwarded to area media requesting that anyone having information of the possible whereabouts of Paz-Cannales contact law-enforcement. Investigators received some telephone calls with possible locations for Paz-Cannales. Tips were checked and investigators determined that Paz-Cannales might have possibly fled to Oklahoma.

FCSO contacted the United States Marshal Service to request assistance and the Marshals responded by sending a fugitive apprehension team to Oklahoma. Marshals were able to fully develop leads and, after devoting many man-hours, determined Paz-Cannales' location and arrested him on Dec. 22. Paz-Cannales was taken to the Bryan County Jail to be held pending arraignment by a magistrate and extradition to Fannin County. On Dec. 23, Paz-Cannales was extradited to Fannin County Jail where he is currently being held for multiple drug charges and escape.

Fannin County Sheriff Donnie Foster expressed his gratitude to those who called in and to the Unites States Marshal Service.

"The Marshal Service put together the apprehension team very quickly after we called them," Foster said. "They stayed on the job here and in Oklahoma for days until they were able to make the arrest of Paz-Cannales. The concerned citizens who called in the tips and the area news agencies are to be commended for taking time to get involved. My staff and I really appreciate that. Everyone working together paid off."
