April 14, 2011 - Four Leonard High School students recently earned the right to advance to the UIL Academic Regional Championships to be held Saturday, April 16, at Tarleton State University in Stephenville.

Caddo Mills hosted the District 12-2A Speaking Championships on March 22 at Faith Baptist Church. Junior Cory Martin grabbed the silver medal in Lincoln-Douglas Debate for the second straight year, earning another trip to regionals. Jordan Jones garnered a sixth-place ribbon in Prose to wrap up his senior year.

Leonard followed that up on Thursday, March 24, by sending several participants to the UIL Academic Championships at TAMU-Commerce. Senior Wesley Orr won the district championship and the accompanying gold medal in News Writing. Brooke Kay, also a senior, helped out the journalism team by producing a third-place finish in Editorial Writing, earning a second Leonard berth at regionals.

Senior Karrina Vaughn finished third in Computer Applications to complete the LHS contingent headed to Stephenville. All except Kay will compete Saturday. Due to the Leonard Senior Prom being held that night, she elected to pass on her afternoon contest and allow the alternate from Editorial Writing to compete. Orr, Martin and Vaughn have morning contests, which will not affect prom attendance.

Martin also finished as the runner-up in the Physics division of the Science contest, in addition to earning a sixth-place ribbon in Mathematics.
