April 7, 2011 - Region 10 Library Consultant, Terry Roper, visited with seventh grade students from Mrs. Hicks' English Language Arts class on Wednesday, March 3. Celeste Junior High School is part of a Region 10 technology pilot project called The Future is Now.

The goal of the project is to encourage the use of new technologies in the classroom to support student learning. The projects are created and led by students. The seventh grade students are currently using Web 2.0 tools such as Diigo and CISD digital online resources to research epidemics and pandemics. After researching the topic, the students will write a research paper and then collaborate using a class Wiki to share their information with the group. The Wiki is a Web 2.0 piece of server software that allows users to freely create and edit web page content using any web browser. The Wiki space will become a part of yearly instruction for the epidemic and pandemic research project. Each year the seventh grade students will be able to contribute to the Wiki, creating a legacy for classmates to follow for years to come.
