March 31, 2011 - The Creative Arts Center Kidz Krew Performing Arts Program and the Red River Community Theatre (RRTC) announced this week they have joined into a collaborative effort. This effort will likely benefit both entities as well as theatre patrons and will help centralize and energize the performing arts in Bonham and the Fannin County area. RRCT plans to donate a portion of the proceeds from each play to Kidz Krew.

Lisa Avila, director of the Kidz Krew program is pleased with the collaboration.

"When Norman Young, president of the Red River Theatre, asked me about forming a partnership of some sort, I thought it sounded like a great idea," Avila said last week.

Avila will continue to use the Windom Performing Arts Center (the Old Windom School) for full-scale Kidz Krew productions. Collaboration on advertising for plays, the building of sets both entities can use and the willingness of RRCT to give a portion of each plays' proceeds to the CAC Kidz Krew Performing Arts program will spearhead the new partnership.

"I believe that the Creative Arts Center's mission for Kidz Krew will be better fulfilled by this arrangement," Avila said. "Adult community theatre will continue and those productions can help sponsor Kidz Krew, while the kids can provide a small work force to raise awareness of theatre arts in the county and promote adult productions. It's a win-win situation. Financially, there is an advantage to everyone."

The Kidz Krew Program is currently in rehearsal for "Sherlock Holmes and the Grimm Imbroglio". The play, an original work by Avila, pays homage to the famous detective and brings a few Grimm brothers characters along for the ride. Performances are scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 31, April 1 and April 2, at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the Creative Arts Center and are $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.
