March 24, 2011 - Due to the retirement of Ray Ryan, the Fannin County Sheriff's Office has recently filled the position of Chief Deputy from within the department. James Woods was promoted on March 14, 2011 to fill the position.

Woods began working emergency services for the citizens of Fannin County in 1999 as an EMT with East Texas Medical EMS. He graduated Texoma Regional Police Academy in the fall of 2001 and began his career as a Patrolman for the City of Honey Grove. He was elected Constable, Precinct 3, in the fall of 2004. Woods began working for the Fannin County Sheriff's Office in May of 2004 as a Jailer. He then promoted to Deputy, Patrol Sergeant, Criminal Investigations Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, and most recently Chief Deputy.

I have a vested interest in this community. I grew up in the community and now my wife and I are raising our daughter here. I enjoy working with the citizens of this county and look forward to seeing the relationship between the Sheriff's Office and the citizens of this county grow. I appreciate the support we have already received from our current staff, the community, County Officials, family, and friends. I strive to be the public servant this county deserves."

Sheriff Donnie Foster stated, "James is my go-to guy. He was the obvious choice to replace Ray. We hated losing Ray Ryan, but James is the kind of guy who can step in and fill some big shoes. He really has impressed me and I know the decision to promote him is the right one."
