March 24, 2011 - A motorcycle ride for three Oklahoma friends turned into a bad situation for two of them after they collided in Trenton Monday morning. Both were transported to area hospitals and one remained in critical condition Tuesday.

Officer Jim Davenport with Trenton Police Department, who was still working on the tedious paperwork from the accident investigation Tuesday morning, reported that his first responders were dispatched at 10:01 a.m. to a major accident at the north entrance to Kwik Chek. Scanner traffic indicated that one rider was pinned under his bike.

"They were all friends from Sulphur, Okla.," said Davenport.

Two men were lying off the shoulder of the east-bound lane of U.S. Highway 69 with their damaged motorcycles and debris lying nearby. First responders and some others - including their fellow friend who was not involved - were tending to them while two ambulances were in route.

It was determined before the ambulances arrived, however, that one rider was injured badly enough that he would need to be taken by air ambulance to a hospital that could handle serious trauma.

Leonard Volunteer Fire Department was on scene to assist and set up a parameter and heli-pad zone for an Air Evac Lifeteam chopper, which landed just before 10:30 a.m. The helicopter was on the ground for 15 minutes while the patient was stabilized in a nearby ambulance, and then flown to The Medical Center of Plano.

The second victim was taken by a Bonham Fire Department ambulance to Red River Regional Hospital in Bonham, and released later Monday.

Davenport said Tuesday morning that the rider taken to Plano was still in the Intensive Care Unit.

Assisting Trenton Police Department with the accident scene and investigation were Trenton Volunteer Fire Department, Leonard Volunteer Fire Department, Fannin County Sheriff's Office, Bonham Fire Department EMS and Air Evac Lifeteam.
