Feb. 17, 2011 - As part of the Texas College Preparation Program (TCPP), funded by the 81st Texas Legislature, approximately 60 percent of 2010-11 grade 11 students have an opportunity to take one state-funded college entrance examination in the spring or early summer of 2011.
The ACT exam will be given on April 9, with a registration deadline of March 4, and again on June 11, with a registration deadline of May 6. The SAT exam will be given on May 7, with a registration deadline of April 8 and again on June 4, with a registration deadline of May 6.
In order to register for an eligible test administration, students must obtain an exam voucher from the counselor's office. The voucher only covers the regular registration fees associated with the exam. All additional fees and charges are the responsibility of the student.
Students who have already registered at their own expense for one of the eligible administrations above may request a refund directly from the test vendor. Instructions for how to request a refund are included in the exam voucher. Students who have used a fee waiver for a future test, must follow the steps on the voucher to request a refund of their fee waiver. A valid voucher is required for all refund requests.
The benefits of taking a college entrance exam include the identification of academic strengths and weaknesses, experience taking college entrance exams, and access to scholarship opportunities. Students have the choice of which exam to take. When students receive their exam vouchers, they should also receive a flyer from each test vendor explaining the benefits of each exam. Students should select the exam that best suits his/her needs.
