ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED
Ms. Sylvia Jones of Celeste and Mr. Elwood Jones of Greenville announce the engagement of their daughter Sylvia Diann to Mr. Jimmy Ray Ishmael of Greenville. The wedding ceremony will be March 21, 1981 at 7:30
p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Celeste. Miss Jones is a 1978 graduate of Celeste High School and is currently employed by at Citizens General Hospital in Greenville. Mr. Ishmael is a 1975 graduate of Greenville High School and is currently employed by J. C. Worley. Friends and relatives are invited.
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
Naomi Butler was honored on March 7, with a surprise birthday party in the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Gay Jr. Everyone enjoyed cake, homemade ice cream and a game of 42. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Jim Butler and Brian, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Gay Jr. and Andy, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Glasscock, and Franklin Key, and Michael Pierce.
Election Notice
The Celeste Independent School District Board of Trustees hereby gives notice of an election to be held on April 4, 1981, for the purpose of electing 2 School Trustees for a full 3 year term.
ABSENTEE VOTING by personal appearance will begin on Wednesday, March 4, 1981, and continue through Monday, March 30, 1981, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on each day which is not a Saturday, Sunday, or an official state holiday.
Absentee voting in person shall be conducted at Celeste School Supt. Office. Applications for absentee ballots by mail should be mailed to Supt. G. W. Tillerson, Celeste, Texas 75423.
The POLLING PLACE designated below will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on the day of the election. Pct. No. 26, Celeste High School Library.
Thacker Wins At Blue Ridge
Don Thacker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bud Thacker and a senior member of the Celeste F.F.A. Chapter walked away with top honors at the Blue Ridge Livestock Show Saturday March 7.
Don placed first with a 9 month old Simmental heifer and won Grand Champion of the Simmental Division of the show with a 23 month old Simmental heifer.
Thacker also walked away with the Showmanship Trophy which is awarded to the student who has best presented his animal during the judging contest.
Don was accompanied to Blue Ridge by his father and Kelly Warren, also of Celeste.
50 YEARS AGO - MARCH 10, 1961
City Foods To Open This Week End In Celeste
Mrs. Esther Smith announces the opening of City Foods on Main Street this week end.
Mrs. Smith just recently sold the Gulf Service Station on the east end of town. She and her late husband operated the business over a long period. She has expressed her thanks to friends and customers for their patronage in the past and extends an invitation to all to call on her in her new business.
The store will offer a complete line of groceries, fresh meats and vegetables. Also ice cream, cold drinks, candies and many other items too numerous to mention.
There will be a snack bar where coffee will be served.
The store is located on the north side of the street in the former Ralph Evans Grocery. The building has undergone extensive remodeling and was painted a soft green shade.

Mrs. Smith said free coffee and donuts will be served all day Saturday.
Miss Janice Hayes And William Towers Married In Church Ceremony Friday Night
An arch with twin wedding bells entwined with plumosus ferns formed the background for the altar setting at North Baptist Church Greenville, for the wedding of Miss Janice Marie Hayes and William Eddie Towers. Large baskets filled with white gladioli and emerald fern trees completed the scene which was illuminated with cathedral candles in seven branched candelabra.
Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hayes, 4017 Church, Greenville, and Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Towers of Paris.
The Rev. B. C. Housewright, pastor, directed the couple in reciting nuptial vows Friday, March 3, at 7:30 p.m.
Presenting the wedding music was Mrs. Carolyn Strawn, pianist, and Miss Wanda Durham, soloist.
Mrs. Roy Stapleton Hostess For Club's Texas Day Program
Sixteen members answered roll call with "Current Events in Texas" when Mrs. Roy Stapleton entertained the Celeste Thursday Club in her home March 2. The program theme was Texas Day.
Mrs. Charles Dupre gave devotion, "Michael".
Nancy Stapleton gave readings on "Highlights of 1836" and "Pioneer Women of Texas". She also presented a piano solo, "Dance of the Honeybees".
Sydne Roach sang "There Will Always Be a Texas" accompanied by Jeanette Gibson at the piano. Miss Gibson also played a piano solo.
The meeting adjourned for a social hour following the program.
The next meeting will be in the home of Mrs. Claude Gresham.
