March 3, 2011 - Sonic and COTA Community Coordinator Ava Barlow will host a fundraiser for "COTA in honor of Madeline Burke" on Saturday, March 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the high school commons area. Sonic will serve a new item on their menu - Frito Chili Cheese Pies for a $5 or more donation. LHS BETA Club members will sell cold canned drinks and brownies and cookies will be sold for a donation.

Clayton Kemp, local Leonard student, will be on hand to DJ background music and make announcements when the relay activities begin. There will also be silent auction items to bid on from several local businesses and there will be order forms for t-shirts showing support of Madeline during this time while she is waiting for her lung transplant. All proceeds for the evening will go to the COTA fund in honor of Madeline Burke.

Hickory Barbecue of Bonham has donated dinner for two, M & D Sewing-a blue and gold bag and scarf, Warrior Tire and Appliance of Bonham-a free tire rotation, and The Leonard Pharmacy-a Black and Decker electric knife. Many other local businesses have promised items for the silent auction.

Kids are encouraged to be on hand to help with relay races. Each participating child will be given a 20 oz. empty water bottle and will be given an amount of time, racing against other kids their age, to get attendees to deposit money in their bottle. Come with your pockets full of change or bills to donate.

Jeremy LaCook, manager of Sonic says, "We hope everyone will come out and try this new item and support this local event to help raise money for the Burke family."

Volunteers are needed to help run the event and to bake brownies and cookies. To volunteer, please contact Barlow at 972-658-7608.
