March 3, 2011 - LHS golfers made great strides Monday, shaving multiple strokes off individual and team scores in the cold wind at the Cooper/Caddo invitational at Stone River Golf Club.

The Tigers finished fifth in the standings at 385, only one stroke out of fourth place. That marked an improvement of 35 strokes from last week's season opener at Tanglewood in Pottsboro.

Again, freshman Justin Bennett led the charge, finishing at 91, with teammate Brad Dills adding a 95. Storm Taylor rebounded with a solid 97, and Mitchell Vines joined Cory Martin with scores of 102 and 105 to round out the Tiger effort. Tiger medalists were Kade Speir at 102, Jackson Bulloch at 116 and Josh Carty at 138.

The Lady Tigers did not field a complete team due to illness, but continued to improve as well. Senior Maggie Foster shot a career-low 106, good enough for fourth-place individually. Alex Brooks fired a 122, and Jordan Riley added a 125 in her first tournament. Alyssa Woodruff and Rosa Gomez finished at 133 and 136, respectively.

Both teams will see action Monday, March 7, at Lake Fork Golf Club near Emory.
