30 YEARS AGO - MARCH 6, 1981

Singing Halyards

The Halyard Singers will be guests of the United Methodist Church next Sunday, March 8, at the evening service, 6:00 p.m.

The family group will be visiting a local family, the Choice Atkins, and will share their gospel music.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

Engagement Announced

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Pairsh of Wolfe City wish to announce the engagement of their daughter Beverly Ann to Keith Alan Luke of Celeste. The couple are planning an April 17 wedding at the home of the bride-elects brother, Johnny Pairsh.

50 YEARS AGO - MARCH 3, 1961

Cars Damaged In Collision

Two cars collided at an intersection on U. S. 69 in Celeste Saturday night causing a total of $450 damage to the vehicles.

Highway Patrolmen said a car driven by Ralph T. Oliver, Sherman, was traveling west on U.S. 69 and collided with a south-bound auto driven by Eddie Sue Gibson, Celeste.

Basketball Boys At State Finals

Supt. G. W. Tillerson, Coach T. B. Weatherley and Ralph Evans took three car loads of boys to Austin Thursday where they are attending the state finals in basketball.

The group will return home Saturday night.

North Hopkins Defeats Celeste In Bi-District Play

The Celeste girls basketball team was defeated by North Hopkins 66-35 in bi-district play Monday night in the Greenville high school gym.

Nancy Francis scored 29 points and Anita Goldsmith 25 for Hopkins and Martha Hackney 10 for Celeste.

Celeste won the 53B title and Hopkins won the 54B title.
