Butch Fowler Sells FFA Angus Steer To Farley & Hill Grocery and Market
Butch Fowler bought his FFA project, an Angus calf, October 8, 1960 for $70 from Floyd Flanagan when he weighed 350 pounds.
For 120 days Butch fed the calf a total of 900 pounds of F.F.A. feed which was composed of combined maize, cotton seed meal, syrup and salt. The calf gained a pound and one-half daily during this period, making a total gain of 186 pounds.
Butch sold the steer to L. C. Hill Monday, February 20, 1961. It weighed 536 pounds and brought 26c per pound.
Butch is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Buster Fowler and a freshman in Leonard high school.
Mr. Hill has announced the beef will be on sale at Farley and Hill Market this week end.
3 From Leonard On Dean's List At ETSC, Commerce
One hundred and ninetyfour East Texas State College students have been named to the Dean's List in recognition of high grades made for the fall semester.
Those named to the list have grade averages of at least 2.4 with a grade of B counting 2 points and an A counting 3 points.
Included on the Dean's List by Dr. Cecil Wright, chairman of the committee on student honors, are the following students: Pat Ayres, Hazel Jones and Jane Stapp, all of Leonard; Lois Newell English, Bailey; Carolyn Sue Clark, Patsy Harlan, Sarah Swan, Lynda Barnard Thorp, all of Bonham; Millard Brent, Ruth Emily Cross, Don Spence Hicks, all of Dodd City; Patricia Green, Gober; Warren Bates, Honey Grove; Sarah Henbree, Ladonia; Jerry S. Workman, Ravenna; Mary Laycock and Virginia Williams, Windom.
Athletic Banquet Friday Night At Leonard School
The annual Athletic Banquet, honoring Leonard school boys and girls who have participated in football, basketball or pep squad, will be held in the school cafeteria Friday night, February 24.
Frank Jackson, halfback on 1960 S.M.U. football team, will be the speaker.
A limited number of tickets were sold for $1.25 each.
The senior class in L.H.S. will serve the meal.
Valley Creek Forms Cemetery Ass'n.
It has been announced a Valley Creek Cemetery Association has been organized.
Anyone wishing to contribute money to help with the up-keep and maintenance of the cemetery is asked to send donations to Mrs. Gerald McLain, Route 1, Leonard. Mrs. McLain is secretary-treasurer.
Hurst Speed Queen Automatic Laundry Opening Monday
M. B. Hurst of Merit announces the opening of Hurst Speed Queen Automatic Laundry on the Northeast corner of the square in Leonard Monday, February 27.
Mr. Hurst owns an automatic laundry in Farmersville.
The modern Leonard laundry has 20 new Speed Queen washers with 12 pound load capacity. Also four new Speed Queen dryers.
