Feb. 24, 2011 - Leonard ISD has been informed by the Texas Education Agency that the district is to ensure every effort is made to make-up the bad weather days that have been missed. Because of this ruling, April 22, May 6, and May 30 (which is Memorial Day) will now be regular school days. The Tier I schedule is now extended through Monday, May 23, with Tier II beginning on Tuesday, May 24, and ending on Friday, June 3.

In addition, LISD is extending the school day for students in kindergarten through twelfth grade by fifteen minutes, starting this Monday, Feb. 28. The new dismissal times will be as follows:

Kindergarten classes will have a new release time of 3:05 p.m. First through third grade classes will be extended to 3:15 p.m. Intermediate, junior high, and high school will all release at 3:25 p.m.

All parents will receive a letter from the district regarding the extended day and calendar revisions this week and are asked to contact their campus office if they have questions.

"Due to the TEA regulations we have to try to make up as many days as we can and after the threat of snow days is past the district will apply for a waiver for one day of not being able to attend school," said Leonard ISD Superintendent Larry LaFavers.
