Freshman Justin Bennett carded a 95 in his first ever varsity tournament Monday to lead the Leonard Tigers in their 2011 golf debut among several larger schools at Tanglewood Country Club in Pottsboro.

Sophomore Brad Dills added an even 100 in his first varsity event, followed by junior Cory Martin at 107. Sophomores Mitchell Vines and Storm Taylor wrapped up the Tiger effort with scores of 118 and 121, respectively.

The Tigers posted a team score of 420 in the cold, whipping wind off of Lake Texoma. Class 3A Whitesboro won the overall team title, followed by 3A Sanger and Class 4A Azle to round out the top three. Other teams competing included 3A schools Paris, Commerce, Gainesville, Bonham, and Frisco Lone Star. Rounding out the field were teams from Pottsboro, Whitewright, Howe, Muenster and Callisburg, along with Azle JV, Sanger JV and Paris JV.

The Tigers will see their next action along with the Lady Tiger golfers at Stone River Golf Club in Royse City on Monday, Feb. 28.
