Jan. 27, 2011 - The Leonard High School boys powerlifting team also competed at the Anna meet on Jan. 14-15 and placed ninth out of 16 teams. The team had three who competed well and finished in the top of their weight class.
Junior Gavin Buckaloo lifted in the 275-pound weight class and finished in the silver position. Gavin lifted a total of 1125 pounds - 450 on squat, 275 on bench press and 400 on dead lift.
Sophomore teammate Jarrell Washington competed in the 148-pound weight class against 24 other lifters and brought home a bronze medal. He lifted 320 pounds on squat, 205 pounds on bench press and 330 pounds on dead lift for a total of 855. The second place winner outlifted him by five pounds.
Cameron Adkins rounded outthe top scoring for Leonard in the super heavyweight class, placing fourth overall out of eight. He lifted 825 pounds total - 300 squat, 185 bench press and 340 deadlift.
Also lifting for Leonard were Curtis Sims who placed 7th in the 198 weight class, Jordan Buckaloo who placed 8th in the 181 weight class, Arnold Contreras who placed 13th in the 181 weight class, Gio Soto who placed 14th in the 148 weight class, and Dakota Smith who placed 15th in the 200 weight class.
